Obviously I’ve let the days get away from me.  Too many hobbies, too little time.

In the beginning the goal of this blog was to push myself creatively.  To experiment with my pictures.  I’ve decided to modify that goal a bit.  If I can’t take a picture a day, I am going to edit a picture a day instead.  I’ve said before how much I hate Photoshop, well, I’m going to try to learn to love it.  This way, I’m still pushing myself.  Pushing is good.

OK….here we go:

Played with curves.

I haven’t played with curves in a really really long time.  Opinions?  Comments?  I need to fix the redness under her eyes and I can see that I’ve lost some of the lighter tones, like her hair.  Help.

Sleeping with Sonnengelb Indio

Sleeping with Sonnengelb Indio

I do believe I’ve missed more days than not at this point.  Well….I did manage to catch Lula sleeping with one of our favorite wraps today.  It’s a rare thing these days, getting to wrap her, and Iwant to capture as much of it as I can.  I think I captured the true color of this brilliant Didymos.

Dyed Pfau on a Tree 2

Dyed Pfau on a Tree 2

Dyed Pfau on a Tree

Dyed Pfau on a Tree

OK, so I feel like I’m getting lamer and lamer.  Lynne (wearinglily) was on the phone crabbing at me for not having a good pic of Pfau.  So, to my credit, I did plan the location because I know there is killer light there at this time of day.  It’s very hard in my yard to get a shot that doesn’t include something like a house, car, electicial box, etc.  But, by golly, I know where the light is.  That seems like a little thing, but seriously, it took me years to figure it out.  I’m talking — the warm glowy light of photographic perfection.  Ahhhh…let’s bask in it and admire my dyed-by-me wrap….

So, which one is better, light-wise?  I haven’t calibrated this monitor and I have no idea…I like Dyed Pfau on a Tree better, but that’s based on this particular monitor.  Help me,  peeps!

Holy Pillow

Holy Pillow

And further evidence of a dusty sensor.  Grrr.  I never inteded to post this here.  Was playing and inteded to do something cooler with this idea.  Set up tripod, use small aperture and long exposure and zoom.  I’d like to use this effect outside.  I’m in search of some cool local neon.  But for now, my friends, we have The Holy Pillow!

Dust on Sensor

Dust on Sensor

A cautionary tale.  A PSA even.  This is why we clean our sensors.  Or in this case, Julie-not-ever-in-almost-four-years cleaning her sensor.  Don’t let this be you.  Be one of the good kids.

I was so sad after I saw this that I didn’t bother to shoot anything good.  Obviously, I need to clean my sensor before digging so deeply into the world of macro again.  I’m a wimp, and I’m afraid to do it myself.  Now, I go to cry.  Goodbye.

after.

I swear, no actual children were hurt in the photographing of this chaos.  Greyson was, in fact, enjoying himself immensely.  All three kids had leaves in places we shall not name.

True to form, I continue to be a day late in posting images.

Lora, Her Belly, and Lily

Lora, Her Belly, and Lily

I’m lucky to have a gorgeous pregnant friend to photograph. Unfortunately, circumstances conspired against us…bad natural light due to a cruddy overcast day, me having to rearrange all the furniture in the house in an attempt to find the best light, and finally a really angry Lula, who was overdue for her nap. Kidwearing and photography don’t exactly work well together. So, I’m bummed that I failed to capture Lora’s fertility goddess look — complete with Bella Band and broomstick skirt. But, rest assured, we’ll be trying again.

Ella, bit by a shabbat candle.

Ella, lit by a shabbat candle.

First time I’ve tried shooting by candlelight. I tried to keep my ISO low to compensate for the graininess that would be caused by keeping the shutter open for so long. I’d like to experiment more with this when Lula is sleeping. She kept interrupting us, and it took so long to set up the shot…I finally gave up.
